The Montrose Vikings is committed to ensuring the wellbeing and safety of all of our players.

Under the Working with Children Act 2005, it is a requirement that all permanent coaches, team managers and committee members must pass a Working with Children Check administered by the Department of Justice. The purpose of the check is to determine suitability of persons to work in close contact with children.

You do not require a WWC check to “fill in” as a coach or team manager, or if you are under 18 years of age.

How to apply

The application process is handled directly between the applicant and the Department of Justice. The Club plays no role in the assessment process and will only be notified through the issue of an Assessment Notice (pass), Interim Negative Notice or a Negative Notice. If an Interim Negative Notice or a Negative Notice is issued the Applicant will not be permitted to participate as Coach or Team Manager.

There is no fee to apply for a WWC Check. Once you have submitted a valid WWC Check application you are able to undertake coaching or team management duties while the application is assessed.

To apply:

  1. Get an application form from the Club. Applications can only be submitted on the Department of Justice form.
  2. Fill out the form (DO NOT SIGN IT). The 16 page application seems daunting at first, but there is actually not much information required – mainly your details and information about the organisation you will be working for (in our case, the basketball club).
  3. Take the form, a passport size photo, and 100 points of ID as specified on the form, to a Post Office of your choice.
  4. At the Post Office, show your ID, sign the application, submit the form & photograph.

Within 2 to 3 weeks you will be notified of the outcome of your application. Successful applicants are issued an Assessment Notice, a copy of will be provided to the Club for our records.
