Player Registration
The Vikings participate in the Junior Domestic competition of the Kilsyth and Mountain District Basketball Association (K&MDBA). We play against clubs based around Kilsyth and surrounding suburbs over two seasons per year (winter and summer seasons).
To play with the Vikings, players must first be registered with the Association by filling out a form and paying a small (one off) registration fee. If a player has already played after school basketball they have probably already registered with the Association. Players must also register with the Club and pay a registration fee each season. Player registration is done using the online form found here.
Your Team Manager can assist you with registration for either the Club or the Association.
Games
Games are played once a week at Kilsyth Sports Centre, Lilydale Basketball Stadium or Oxley College.
Games are played on the following schedule:
| Miniball | Saturday Morning |
| Boys | Saturday Morning/Afternoon |
| Girls U10 | Tuesday Afternoon/Evening |
| Girls U12 and above | Wednesday Afternoon/Evening |
Age Eligibility
Age cut-off dates are set by the Association. There are typically two seasons per year – A winter season and a summer season.
If a child’s age will increase before the 1st of January for the summer season they will be placed in the next age group up. If their birthday is before July 1st in the Winter season they are placed in the next age group up.
However, there are exceptions. children who the club (including coaches), believe can cope with an older age group, or whose skill level and development warrants it, may be eligible to skip an age group, or may play in an age group for a reduced time period (eg one season instead of two).
We try not to be black and white, and are generally open to some limited discussion about your childs placement.
Please note however, that the rules must be adhered to and except in the case of physical or mental disability a player cannot stay in an age group that they are too old to be in.
Uniforms
All players must play in the approved Montrose Vikings uniform. Our Uniforms Officer holds a range of sizes. Occasionally, “experienced” uniforms are available at a reduced cost. We also encourage family members to share uniforms where possible in order to keep costs down.
Training
Training takes place once a week at a time and place determined by the teams coach. All players are encouraged to attend training and participate fully. While training should be fun and enjoyable all players should ensure they are attentive and respectful to the coach. Remember, the coach is giving their time to help you!
Player Development
The Kilsyth Cobras is the home team of the Kilsyth and Mountain District Basketball Association. It is an elite program for talented players and Kilsyth basketball has successfully competed at a representative level since 1982.
Representative basketball is played once per week against other competing associations in addition to players’ Junior Domestic commitments. Whilst the majority of associations are from other cities within Melbourne, there are some teams from outlying areas including Sunbury, Werribee, the Mornington Peninsula, Geelong and Bendigo. The Victorian Junior Basketball League now has more than 900 teams competing.
Kilsyth currently has 30 boys and girls teams competing in its Junior Representative program. All teams train on Sunday mornings and some have second training sessions mid-week.
Tryouts are generally held in October each year. Keep an eye on the news section of the website for times and dates.
